Mamenchisaurus

(mah-MEN-chee-sawr-us)

Mamenchisaurus means "Mamenchi lizard"

It was discovered in an area of China called Mamenchi from where it got its

name.

It is a 4-legged plant eater.

The Mamenchisaurus could be up to 89 feet long,

with the world's largest known neck perhaps measuring up to 49 feet long,

with 19 vertebrae (that is more than any known dinosaur).

Some scientists believe it used its enormus neck to reach high branches

on trees. But others believe that Mamenchisaurus spent most of its life in

rivers and ponds, sweeping its long neck around

to feed from vegetation on the banks.
